The Optomate user community keeps growing and we require another Help Desk person to join our Melbourne Head Office. This position would suit someone that wants to kick-start their IT career.

Knowledge of PC applications/ hardware, Optomate Practice Management System and the optical industry in general an advantage but not essential.

The ability to prioritise, self motivate and a lot of patience a must. Immediate start, 3 month trial.

  MYOB & QuickBooks Optomate Premier Link

The Optomate Premier Series includes an all new Accounting Link facility. The new module makes the integration of data from Optomate to MYOB, and now QuickBooks, a one-click process. The new technology used also enables us to send more comprehensive sales related data, enabling you to produce more detailed reports in your accounting system.

If you would like a no obligation online demonstration of the new Optomate Premier Accounting Link, please contact OzBiz Solutions on 02 6568 9399 and speak to John Macey, John Gibson or Wendy Blackford to book in your demonstration. OzBiz Solutions, the providers of the Accounting link software technology, charge $550 for the initial setup and an annual software maintenance fee of $350 for a single practice. Their software maintenance covers unlimited telephone support and accounting link software upgrades.

The Accounting Link facility is the only module that we have outsourced in the Optomate Premier Series upgrade, therefore attracting a fee from a third party. We believe that the extra fee is worth every cent, considering the dedicated support for your accounting system and accounting data provided by OzBiz Solutions, the more seamless integration supplied and the extra reporting facilities.

Please note that the Optomate 2003 Series MYOB export import facility has been replaced by the new Accounting Link facility in the Optomate Premier Series.

  Medmont & Digital Healthcare Links   Hardware & Networking

Both the Medmont and Digital Healthcare systems gather data directly from the Optomate database. The Optomate Premier Series database has been upgraded to utilise newer technology.

As such, if you are currently using the link between the Optomate 2003 Series and Medmont and/or Digital Healthcare you will need to contact Medmont or Optimed to arrange an upgrade to your software to ensure compatibility with the new Optomate Premier Series.

  Optomate Editions

A new Optomate System Edition, Consulting + Contact Lens, was introduced recently.
If you are currently using the Optomate Consulting Only edition and need to track contact lens sales, then you may wish to upgrade to this edition. With the inclusion of this edition, users now have the option of choosing between:

  • The Enterprise Edition – used for multi-store practices
  • The Comprehensive Edition – used by the majority of user, incorporating all modules
  • The Dispensers Only Edition – dispensing only module, not consulting
  • The Consulting + Contact Lens Edition – consulting and contact lens tracking
  • The Consulting Only Edition – consulting only, no stock control

  Windows Vista

We are still recommending that users do not upgrade their current Windows Operating Systems to Windows Vista. While the Optomate Premier Series is Vista-compliant, the Optomate 2003 Series is not.

We have also been made aware that some other optical-specific software systems are not yet Vista ready. Add to this the fact that Microsoft is still yet to release the first Service Pack (bug fixes, security upgrades and compatibility inclusions), we believe it would be premature to upgrade.

If you are purchasing new hardware and Windows Vista comes pre-installed, please ensure that it is the Windows Vista Business Edition, not Home editions.

Optomate Suggestion

If you would like to put forward a suggestion for a system change or new inclusion please email your suggestion to suggestions@monkeysoftware.com.au.

When emailing your suggestion please include as much detail as possible.
All reasonable user suggestions are included in our 'to do' list and prioritised
for future release.

The upgrade of clients from the Optomate 2003 Series to the all new Optomate Premier Series is slowly continuing.
To date, we have been upgrading current users on-site in order to gauge any issues you may run into during the conversion.

We are now happy that you will be able to follow our installation and conversion procedure so emails will begin to be shipped this week. If you feel that you will require an on-site visit to help you out with the conversion, please let us know when you receive your email and we will call you to arrange a suitable time. Please note that on-site visits attract a call out fee.

  Medicare Australia's Online Claiming and Java

We have had a number of calls to our Help Desk regarding Medicare Australia's Online Claiming system returning an "Invalid Floating Point" error message after a Windows Java Runtime Environment (JRE) upgrade. The latest version of Sun Microsystems JRE contains several updates which ARE NOT compatible with all releases of Medicare Australia's Online Claiming Client Adaptor. If you are prompted to update your version of Java on the PC you use Online Claiming, please answer NO.

If you have downloaded an update to the JRE and are receiving errors when sending or receiving online Medicare claims you will need to uninstall the latest JRE, currently Version 6. Go to Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and ensure you remove all versions of Java that do not relate to 1.3.1 (JRE Version 1.3.1 is the only version that is compatible). Reboot your PC before trying to use Online Claiming again.
